Description:	In the Human Services program, you will develop the knowledge and skills to help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities achieve their full potential. Learn about various intellectual, developmental and physical disabilities, and develop practical skills to assist individuals with disabilities. Courses include Communication Skills, Personal Care, Inclusion, Person-Centred Planning, Mental Illness, Personal Wellness, and Teaching and Behavioural Strategies. The Human Services program was established in 1974 to meet the need for skilled professionals to support people with intellectual disabilities in residential, vocational and educational settings. Since its beginning, graduates have been in demand, and have contributed to the enhancement of services not only for people with disabilities, but also by many people who are marginalized in society.

Prerequisites:*	These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school. Grade12 English Applicants are required to have Grade 12 or equivalent * with credits at or above the general level, and Grade 12 academic English, minimum of 65%.
Additional Admission Requirements:	Letter(s) of Reference Resume/Curriculum Vitae Work Experience Applicants are required to have written verification of a minimum of 50 hours of paid or volunteer work experience, preferably within the last three years, with individuals who are labeled with an intellectual disability. Sites may include group homes and residences; vocational training centres; special education classes; recreation and summer programs for individuals who have intellectual disabilities, or early learning centres working with children who have special needs. Applicants must also have: three letters of reference: one from the work or volunteer experience mentioned above, one from an employer, and one personal reference. Friends, family, or relatives may not serve as a reference: a Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector) with no findings of guilt. (Please keep a copy of your criminal record check for your records.); a Standard First Aid and CPR Level C from a recognized First Aid/CPR trainer; a Current Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS) certificate; and a résumé including work and volunteer experience with applicable dates, membership in groups, associations or athletics, awards and distinctions, and any other information about yourself relevant to the program.
